Upward and Onward

For those who have made a commitment and are on the Pilgrim Path, life is a journey of love, peace, and freedom as followers in union with Jesus Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit.

Readings recommended for upward progress on the Pilgrim Path:

1. For a good booMountain_Pathk to learn more about God, one should read Knowing God by J. I. Packer.

2. There are an endless number of books on Jesus. Robert Stein’s book, Jesus the Messiah: A Survey of the         Life of Christ, gives a good overview of the major aspects of Jesus’ life and teaching with some discussion of     questions and issues that arise.

3. An excellent guide to learning how to study the Bible is How to Read the Bible for All Its Worth by Gordon Fee and Douglas Stuart.

4. Prayer is an essential discipline of the Christian life.  A couple of recommended books on prayer are Timothy Keller’s, Prayer: Experiencing Awe and Intimay with God, and  The Complete Works of E. M. Bounds on Prayer.

5. A practical area for study and living is related to decision making and God’s guidance.  One useful and balanced book on this is God’s Will: Finding Guidance for Everyday Decisions, by J. I. Packer and Carolyn Nystrom.

6. A general work which has helped many to deepen their relationship with God is the book Experiencing God by Henry Blackaby and Claude King.

7. A very valuable modern classic is Richard Foster’s Celebration of Discipline: The Path to Spiritual Growth.
