Paul was born into a Hindu higher caste, Kshatriya, family in Bangladesh. His family was very Orthodox Hindu, and therefore, he read many of the Hindu scriptures and related books as a boy. His grandfather mentored him in Hinduism. He questioned his grandfather and others asking how one could know the number of cyclic rebirths or reincarnations before he would be saved. He also questioned how the Brahman could have created all humans, but still allowed the discrimination of the caste system. When his family was in a refugee camp, he was impressed by dedicated service of Christians there. Paul was given a New Testament by the director of the organization serving in the refugee camp. Through discussions and reading the New Testament, Paul realized that eternal life is a free gift of God which he could receive by placing his faith in Jesus Christ who paid the penalty for his sins. This was the turning point in his life and it gave him great joy and peace, knowing that he did not have to earn his salvation through endless reincarnations and good works.
